There is more to the film and the third act really takes one's breath away imo. Djata is a care-free 12-year-old growing up in a brutal dictatorship shut off from the outside world. It gives us enough to understand basic elements of Chinese culture for those who are unfamiliar but doesn't overburden us trying to explain it.
