Though this book is for teaching the readers about how to write a novel or nonfiction. Just Write was written to encourage teens to write, but it has tips for writers of any age. The last sections, focused on publishing and marketing, have been a struggle to stay interested in because they're not all that relevant to me at the moment (as someone who hasn't actually finished a story, let alone is looking at publishing anything yet), but this is a damned good guide on improving your writing and making money with it. If you just read a book on writing in your life, let it be this one. He has written two books in the Writers' Digest series, Write Great Fiction: Plot & Structure and Revision & Self-Editing.
Certainly not aimed at the hobbyist who doesn't intend to make it big but packed full of great information for those who do.
The book is well written with excellent tips for burgeoning authors. It is strong and me.

Although I bought the book for my freshmen, I found a couple of gems that I might try for myse. Book Writing … You see it all the time on Twitter—writers giving blow-by-blow updates, using the #amwriting hashtag. I really liked it. Right now, I'm trying to write a story, and it gets easier if you follow those methods. It's full of all sorts of advice about writing, from plot structure to writing quotas and everything in between. This is the book I wish I'd had when I was a teenager! I would recommend it to newer writers or those still attempting to finish their first drafts.

This book has so much meat in it, I took notes all the way through and did the exercises. To me, Myers scratches the surface on many of the topics he tries to address. I recommend this book and anything else he's written. Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer - no Kindle device required. Some parts provided too many examples and there were a lot of little pep talks throughout the book. Steven James's Story Trumps Structure is better too, I believe. It is stockpiled with inspired and inspirational guidance and -isms and more. Good intro to Bell if you haven't read his earlier books. Write a novel in a month? Just Write Books LLC provides coaching for writers and publishing consulting to those looking to get their works published. I find it infinitely more enjoyable and rewarding to work with this Maine-based publisher than to deal with national publishers from out-of-state. This book tells the story about Hawes’ life in the Synergias and inside the cult that produced Biosphere 2. I don’t know why anyone would think this a good book on writing. I like everything Bell has to teach about craft.

Any writer looking for book writing software to help them complete that novel or non-fiction book should take a look at Scrivener. uses a number of anecdotes from his own life and even adding pages from his own notebooks, Myers gives his audience a step-by-step description of the writing method he has used over the course of his career. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I didn't find it as relevant as an adult writer with more experience, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to ease themselves into the writing world. I hope to read more of his books. As a young adult, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided I wanted to become a writer. Walter Dean Myers wrote this book after collaborating with a student to write a novel. Not only does Myers offer the expected tips and encouragement for prospective authors, he clearly addresses a target audience of disaffected youths looking for an outlet for their own experiences. We'll be adding more information about that evolution soon. An engaging book, one with meaningful exercises, wry wisdom, and sound advice. A great mixture of writing motivation and craft tips, with a good chunk of the advice geared toward indie / self-published writers. Lol, page turner! It would be better if it were all in logical order like Deborah Chester's latest, the Fantasy Writing Formula.
Keep in mind these are only my opinions. I was blogging regularly then, satisfied with my status-quo life, when in 2017, staggering tragedy hit me. There did appear to be some level of snide bias towards Pantsers with some kind of understanding that pantsers feel like everything is a magical unicorn that they sit down to when inspiration and whim takes them, who rebelliously buck any sense of structure or writing tools, which seemed a very incompatible view to what I, as a pantser consider pantsing. August 2020; May 2020; April 2020; Categories. It's a bit scattered, giving it that collection of blog posts kind of feel. I've only read a half dozen books on the craft of writing, but this one jumped to the top of the heap for me. This is such a compelling book, I've finished reading this book within one day.
Apple. It's an enjoyable read. This was a rather uplifting how-to guide about writing for teenagers. With its focus on how self-publishing has changed the market, it was very helpful to see how the publishing world has evolved in the years since my birth. It's opinionated which is a good thing, I think. I would try picking it up at your local library if that's an option unless you're familiar with Bell's other writing help books. Thank you. Walter Dean Myers offers great advice for teen and young adult authors. I read all of Mr. Bell's books on writing.
